A few years ago, my mom gave me a bracelet that said “Pay It Forward.” I’ve been wearing this bracelet every day for over a year, and just last week noticed a website on the inside of the bracelet. I went to the website (payitforwardtoday.org) and found that next month they are having a conference about Pay It Forward just an hour from where I live. I thought to myself, This must be a sign. Has everything been leading to this?
This discovery lead me to tell many of my friends and family about the movement and what it means to me. It made me analyze how important it is to me and how I employ it in my daily life. How can I use this to make the world better? I asked myself. Now, I haven’t really come to a full conclusion about that yet. I don’t know the answer to all my questions.
But this event awakened something in me. As much as I tell people to pay it forward, as much as I tell people to be alive and aware and to be good people - whatever that may mean to them - it’s easy to forget that. It’s easy to get swept away in daily life and worry only about yourself, worry only about the present moment and what it means for your future. And all it takes it one thing to bring you back to the moment and bring you back to what’s important. Tell me: What has inspired you today? What renews your passion? What makes you feel alive?
